Actress Jennifer Tilly is no poker pretender. Tilly won the Ladies no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em event at the World Series of Poker, marking the first time a celebrity has won a bracelet at the famous tournament.

Tilly’s skillful and self-admitted lucky play earned her $158,625. She beat 600 players to capture first place in the grueling two-day event that featured some of the top female pros in the world. The buy-in was $1,000.

“I think she showed an incredible amount of talent,” WSOP media director Nolan Dalla said. “She had an enormous chip lead and never looked back. It was almost as though her victory was never in question.”

Tilly, 46, said she’s learned plenty of pointers from her boyfriend, poker player Phil “Unabomber” Laak.

Impressive. As Mark Twain demonstrated convincingly, poker is a game of science, not chance.

  1. Tilly, 46, said she’s learned plenty of pointers from her boyfriend, poker player Phil “Unabomber” Laak.

Dang, that has to be about the most tasteless handle I’ve ever heard.

    Who’s next? Chris “Goering” Moneymaker?

  2. Anderson says:

So hot, so talented … maybe I’ll style myself “Osama” & see if I can win Tilly away from that Unabomber guy.

  3. McGehee says:

If that doesn’t work, try “McVeigh” or “Eric Rudolph.”

    Yeesh.

  4. McGehee says:

(That “Yeesh” was aimed at Jennifer Tilly and her boyfriend, not at Anderson.)

  5. Anderson says:

    No “yeesh” taken, sir.

If anyone here hasn’t seen Bound with Tilly & Gina Gershon, this weekend is a good time to rent it & correct that gap in your, um, culture.

  6. Gregg Cattanach says:

The ‘Unibomber’ tag goes with Phil Laak’s looks, (he usually wears a hooded sweatshirt and his head is hidden), not his character.

And I agree, ‘Bound’ is one of the hotter main-stream films.

Tilly is so hot and hilarious as well. She was great in that movie with Richard Dreyfuss about horse racing. (Let It Ride).
