Ann Romney Says No To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Ann Romney entertained appearing on the next seasons of ABC’s popular-for-some-reason-I-don’t-understand dancing show, but turned it down in the end:

It looks like Ann Romney’s dancing partner will still only be Mitt. Despite an offer from “Dancing With the Stars” to dance for the mirror ball trophy in the upcoming season,  she turned the show down.

A Romney adviser confirms to ABC News that she was approached by “DWTS” and she declined the offer. The news was first reported by TMZ.

(…)

TMZ reported the one-time potential first lady “seriously considered” the offer, but the adviser says she only did in the context of her love of dance and the show and “seriously considered” is going too far.

Well, at least America was spared that.

Perhaps Raffela can fill in for her?

  2. cd6 says:

We … we, uh, use Ann sparingly right now so that people don’t get tired of her.

    Whew.

  4. PJ says:

Honestly, did anyone at DWTS actually think Mrs Romney would ever want to mix with common people or participate in this kind of low life culture?
The reason the campaign used her sparingly was to control the rashes she got from having to be near these peasants.

    @PJ:

I think some of the instructors are Hispanic. She might well have had to touch them.

  6. C. Clavin says:

She heard that 47% of the nation counts on the Government to dance for them.

As I recall, Mrs. Romney has MS…

  8. David says:

@Jenos Idanian #13: Which does not in any way mean she cannot dance. Some people with MS, like myself, would not be able to participate in a contest like that, but others could. I find your comment and its implications uniformed and shallow.

  9. Jenos Idanian #13 says:

@David: Then let me elaborate: Mrs. Romney has MS, which would be prominently mentioned at every opportunity on the show. Mrs. Romney has made a point on many occasions that she has no use for pity, and that would be the main point of her appearance — “look how brave she is,” “it’s inspiring how she won’t let her condition slow her down,” and the other treacle-laden BS. She has no interest in being a Professional Victim.

On the other hand… her MS was carefully not mentioned when her critics went after her horse-riding activities, which were recommended to her by her doctor as therapy for her MS. There’s a decent chance that her MS would not have been mentioned much, if at all.

Nah. The show isn’t about politics, but ratings. And they would think that the “brave MS survivor dancing her heart out” angle would be ratings gold. And if she doesn’t want that… oh, well.
