Blogiversary

The Command Post, of which I’m an occasional contributor, is celebrating its one year anniversary this weekend.

It was phenomenally successful during the war, serving as a major source of breaking news during major combat operations and for a while after. It has now branched into all manner of things–including things like election coverage–beyond its original mandate but is still a useful source for breaking news on terrorism and other world events.

You can subscribe to the mailing list and get “alerts” e-mailed to you for breaking stories, which can be useful if you’re stuck in an office without television or radio coverage. It’s easy and free although it has one of my pet peeves: Why isn’t United States the default selection in the drop-down box? Surely, the modal Internet user is still American.

Thanks for the note, James, and for your contributions over the past year. Re: the mailing list country default ... why you ask? Because I didn't think of it! Thanks again for supporting the site ...

BLOGIVERSARY

Matthew Yglesias has been blogging two whole years as of Sunday. Now, at the wise old age of 22, he reflects back on those days of yore:

Those were different days in the blogosphere (and the country) before the Iraq War and so forth and there was more collaboration across the aisle, but it was also mighty lonely out here on the left. I antedate the indomitable Atrios, but he’s obviously done more than anyone else to build the liberal blogosphere (Kos, obviously, also had a thing or two to do with it) which has benefitted us all.

And several to increase the animosity as well. Matthew and others have done a good job of presenting the left’s views without the vitriol.

Kevin Drum once referred to me as the “Matthew Yglesias of the right,” which I guess by extension makes Matt the James Joyner of the left. Or perhaps the rocket in Glenn’s left pocket; I’m not sure which.

At any rate, Happy Blogiversary, Matt!

You're kidding, right? I stopped reading him the day he suggested republicans supported poisoning children through the water supply. Although I have to admit his ignorance of "fiat currency" was pretty funny (it's all fiat currency, Kevin).

BLOGIVERSARY

Rob “Acidman” Smith['s blog Gut Rumbles] turned two yesterday. No posts yet today–he’s likely still passed out on the couch from all the vodka, grits, and catfish.

Update (2017): My guess as to the rationale for lack of posting this morning was quite correct, although Rob’s description of the situation is somewhat more vivid.

Upon rereading this entry, it occured to me that it was the blog, not Rob, that turned two. Indeed, I have it on good authority that Rob is substantially older than that. Corrections noted in the brackets.
