Al-Qaeda Number Three Captured in Pakistan
Al-Qaeda number three captured in Pakistan (Forbes)
Abu Faraj Farj al-Libbi, number three in the Al-Qaeda network and a close associate of Osama bin Laden, has been captured in Pakistan, the country’s information minister told Agence France-Presse. ‘I can confirm that we have arrested Abu Faraj al-Libbi,’ Sheikh Rashid said.
Al-Libbi, a native of Libya, was captured along with five other foreign Al-Qaeda operatives over the weekend in the Pakistani tribal area of North Waziristan, Rashid added. Pakistan has posted a reward of 20 mln rupees for the arrest of al-Libbi. The United States has also offered a 5-mln-usd reward for his arrest. Pakistan’s military leader President Pervez Musharraf has previously blamed al-Libbi for masterminding two attempts to kill him in Dec 2003.
Good news. Granted, the number four guy just moves up to number three. But taking out the chief planners and gaining whatever intelligence value we can from them can’t hurt.
