Behaviors of the Blogosphere

An outfit called comScore conducted an interesting survey entitled, “Behaviors of the Blogosphere: Understanding the Size, Composition and Activities of Weblog Readers” under the sponsorship of Gawker and Six Apart (Movable Type, TypePad).
Its methodology is rather odd from a typical survey research standpoint although, as Jeff Jarvis explains, it is perfectly logical from an advertisers’ standpoint.
For reasons I don’t fully understand, OTB is ranked much, much higher in terms of unique traffic than it does via any other metric I’ve seen:
Our traffic is down somewhat from the first quarter. Still, we were only among the top few blogs trafficwise via TTLB’s rankings or those at BlogAds during occasional spikes. I can’t imagine there has been a day–let alone a quarter–where our traffic exceeded that of InstaPundit.

I wonder how much the RSS feeds are stealing from those numbers?
Bithead: I couldn't tell you. Most of the major sites, indeed most of the sites period, have RSS feeds, though, so one would think the impact would be similar. Maybe not, though.
I just don't think that the survey has any degree of accuracy with the site "freerepublic.com" being at the top of the list.
I can tell you for fact, that if you make a comment on their website that they don't politically agree with, they will "CUT YOU OFF" and will not let you make further comments. I was solicited by the Libertarian Party by them then ask for a financial contribution.
I am conservative, but freerepublic is an ultra-conservative right wing group that has spins as bad as the ultra-liberal groups.
In other words, if you don't agree with them, they will deny you Freedom of Speech and Expression. The ultra righties and leftys can have them, I will not contribute to their surveys or causes
Herb: Freep isn't my cup of tea, but then neither is Democratic Underground or DailyKos. Those sites are all phenomenally popular, however.

Thanks for your comment and wish to add that it is so difficult for me to understand why so many Americans will stand on the street corners and shout about the loss of their freedoms being taken away, then popularize those sites that will deny the very freedoms that we as Americans enjoy. I will not visit sites like the Daily Kos, Democratic Underground or Freep (rhymes with creep) because of their Un-American practices and Philosophies.
