The Clancy Vote

Steve Bainbridge argues that, despite the recent speculation that President Bush is in trouble with the libertarian faction of his base, a more worrisome issue is losing the “resolutely pro-military, devoutly Catholic, and moderately anti-abortion” Tom Clancy vote.

Clancy vote?

Hmm...well, if you say so.

The odd thing is, I always thought Clancy himself was a democrat.

Yeah, anyone who loses over $1MM dollars to a con artist hawking "rare coins" obviously is a smart guy who can analyze situations real well.

It is a nice paradox: those who let Clancy infleuence their vote know too much about him to allow him to influence their vote. Sorry, his reputation has become too soiled (arrogence, personal life problems) that those who would take great stock in what he would have to say would end up discounting it.

I don't think he's arguing that people are following Clancy's lead--just that people like Clancy are getting antsy about Bush.

I am resolutely pro-military, devoutly Catholic, and moderately anti-abortion and I am voting to retain our current leadership. Bush isn't the best president we have had, but he is certainly the best crisis leader I've seen in American politics for some time. While the Leftists are out there screaming, "mine, mine" like a bunch of 3-year olds, this administration is still getting some significant legislation passed and conducting a fairly well prosecuted war on two fronts (three if you include defending against assaults from the media).

Bush in 04 and Rice in 08!
