...all that surplus payroll tax you people have been paying since Reagan raised the tax rate in 1984...

Idiot (I mean, Rick), there hasn't been a Social Security "trust fund" since at least the 1960s.

But thanks for reminding us that before there was Bush Derangement Syndrome, there was Reagan Derangement Syndrome -- and that it still afflicts thousands.

Here we go with the blanket anti-Bush statements from the frothing-at-the-mouth...

I really enjoyed the post-(Iraqi)election pause. The speech seems to have been timed appropriately: following the successful elections, evidence of a disrupted insurgency, and the abduction of childrens toys in Iraq, it's time to realize once again that "the sky is falling!"

This little liar is your duly elected President. Have some respect, if not for him, for your fellow citizens. I see where you stand though. After 80% of CBS news viewers approved of the President's speech, you're still riding the Bush National Guard story. Pathetic.

At least Bush came clean about one thing, the Social Security trust fund is a fiction, all that surplus payroll tax you people have been paying since Reagan raised the tax rate in 1984 is gone we spent it and we don’t really see the need to honor that commitment to anyone younger then 55.

SOTU
The President just heard some serious grumblings from the crowd when he announced that Social Security was in a bind...I believe that's the first time I've ever heard anyone boo/grumble loudly during a SOTU.

I could be wrong....but Cynical Nation ...

President Bush did well to remind the world that the way to Peace is not directly to Peace: it is a consequence of Freedom. Why? Because the human being is a creature who makes choices (liberty). His natural need is therefore an environment of Freedom where he can fulfill his nature as earth's |Choicemaker. Result: Peace.

Man is earth's Choicemaker. Psalm 25:12 He is by nature
and nature's God a creature of Choice - and of Criteria.
Psalm 119:30,173 His unique and definitive characteristic
is, and of Right ought to be, the natural foundation of
his environments, institutions, and respectful relations
to his fellow-man. Thus, he is oriented to a Freedom
whose roots are in the Order of the universe.
