Bush Actually Does Support Democracy
David Adesnik is pleasantly surprised that President Bush has cut off military assistance to Togo after the recent coup: “[T]he White House has surprised all of us. It is working hand in glove with a multilateral organization towards the objective of restoring democracy in Togo. Impressive, no?”
Granted, taking aim at Togo isn’t hard. Hitting Saudi Arabia, China, and other more powerful offenders would be more impressive. Political reality precludes doing that just yet, however.

This is a positive policy, but when is Bush going to get around to getting serious with Gyanendra?
'Political reality precludes that' is an eternal excuse, hauled out whenever "he's not a tyrant" wears thin.
