New Yorkers Want Rudy, Not Hillary, for President

New Yorkers want former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani to run for president in 2008 but not Senator Hillary Clinton and especially not Governor George Pataki.
New York Backs Giuliani Presidential Bid
Many adults in the Empire State believe a former New York City mayor should seek the White House in 2008, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 51 per cent of respondents want Rudy Giuliani to run for president. Giulianiâa Republicanâgarnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Support is slightly lower for New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at 44 per cent.

This is interesting, although it’s meaning is unclear. Given that Clinton is currently in office, it may well simply be an indication that New Yorkers would prefer that she stay in the Senate rather than making a run for office. It’s likely good news for Giuiliani. I can’t think of any way to read this positively for Pataki, however.

Or, it could mean they want Giuliani to run. They might not want him to WIN, but they want him to run.

what`s so great about Rudy,he was a lousy Mayor,and my only good memory of him was walking
downtown after 911.if he saved the city by shooting down the airplanes then he would deserve to run. New York ain`t like the holly roller midwest who voted for the asshole,lying bastard BUSH.And anyway the guy running his campaign is a Queen
Yeah, this poll comes as a shock to me since Giuliani's popularity has been dropping in New York in most polls I've seen, mostly the Kerik fallout. My read is that New Yorkers want to hold on to Hillary and let Guiliani gut it out elsewhere.
I have to disagree with William and Jeremy. My wife and I moved to NYC in July of 1996 and saw a constant improvement in NYC. He was hated, true, but the ones whom hated him are the same as those who are afflicted with BDS.
FYI, the same Marist poll had 51% of NY state registered voters saying they would definitely re-elect Hillary Clinton to the Senate and 56% rate the job she is doing as senator as excellent or good. 43% of voters rate the president's job performance positively.
Don't underestimate the anger with which many women view Giuliani because of the messy way he conducted his divorce. I think he'd have a very hard time winning an election again.
