Dennis Kucinich is preparing to file impeachment charges against Vice President Dick Cheney for . . . something, reports WaPo’s Mary Ann Akers.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the most liberal of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primary field, declared in a letter sent to his Democratic House colleagues this morning that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.

But Kucinich shouldn’t hold his breath on getting anywhere with his impeachment plan. “We’ll see a Kucinich Administration before we’ll see a Cheney impeachment,” quipped one Democratic aide.
Sounds about right. Still, this publicity stunt should make him popular with the base.

This week I intend to introduce Articles of Impeachment with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney. Please have your staff contact my office . . . if you would like to receive a confidential copy of the document prior to its introduction in the House.

I look forward to seeing what his grounds are. If he actually has good, solid abuse of power-type grounds, I'll be interested. On the other hand, if his grounds are at bottom differences on policy, it's an awful precedent.

Nobody mentions the obvious fact that Kucinich just moved Hillary and Obama's positions from "liberal" to "centrist" by comparison? By pushing a much more left-fringe dialog, Kucinish is making what Hillary and Obama are saying sound more appealing to independents, they owe him a debt of gratitute (just please not the VP position).
I think the FDA needs to check the water supply of the area that elects an idiot like Dennis J. Kucinich to represent them. I would like to see that wimp locked in a room with Dick Cheney for an hour. Maybe then you would have grounds for impeachment.
Feh. It may make Clinton & Obama look more centrist, but it also degrades the impeachment process. If any of the current array of scandals really _do_ merit canning Cheney's ass, this will make it that much harder to ever start that process legitimately.
If Kucinich's past is any indication I'm sure his grounds for this will be valid. Whether the process will be successful is another story. But, one thing's for sure: if the grounds are legitimate, which we will wait to see, then impeachment is not, ABSOLUTELY NOT, an awaful precedent. I see people on the net trying to funnel this into a discussion about party politics, actually comparing to the Clinton mess. That's laughable. We're not dealing with someone's love life here, but very likely; war crimes, transgressions of the international treaties, abuse of the Constitution...
Impeachment is the final recourse for Congress, and hopefully the people by their support, to check the abuse of power of the legislative branch. And since this administration has done all it can to consolidate more power then any other branch and then abuse it, I think this is very different from party politics. Kucinich sees where this administration is heading us: Iran and a whole lot more problems than we have now.
He was one of the very few who publicly noticed and tried to overturn the omission of a clause in the Democratic bill for funding in Iraq that took out a requirement for the White House to come to Congress before attacking Iran. Without this clause the Dems are giving this administartion the green light!!! I mean if they wanted to keep this option "on the table", keeping the clause in wouldn't deny this. Just that they have to work with Congress...
What's going on here? Kucinich is not playing politics or trying to gain popularity. He's trying to do what's best for the country. We need to support this however we can.
