24’s Joel Surnow Endorses Rudy Giuliani

Joel Surnow, the executive producer of Fox’s popular series “24,” is endorsing Rudy Giuliani’s bid for the presidency and is horrified by the idea of Hillary Clinton taking the reigns, Stacy McCain reports. (Adam Sandler is apparently aboard the Giuliani bandwagon, too.)

While I’m dubious of the power of endorsements to sway voters, especially in presidential contests, it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. This actually reinforces my sense that Giuliani is a loose cannon not to be trusted with the keys to our nuclear arsenal but, given the popularity of Jack Bauer’s methods, this could well bolster Giuliani’s reputation in the minds of swing voters.

“But Mr. President… don’t you think you should go to Congress before starting a nuclear war?”

    “THERE ISN’T TIME!!

  2. I tend to have the same reaction to this as does James.

Actually, he didn’t say he was horrified by the idea of Hillary as President, per se. What he said was that the very fact that it was being publicly discussed and considered reflected very poorly indeed on the American public.

Adam Sandler? He seems so much smarter than that, at least in his film roles.

With all due respect James, does it make sense to say what you are saying?

An endorsement from an executive producer of a fictional television show reinforces your opinion of a presidential candidate? Why not stick to the candidates record, his campaign positions, and his statements directly to the press to determine strengths and weaknesses? What is it about Hollywood that fascinates so many?

If Vince McMahon endorses a candidate would it reinforce a notion that candidate would head butt visiting dignitaries?

This will not boost Giuliani in the eyes of swing voters. This will have exactly the amount of impact it deserves, none.

These pretty well back up James’ loose cannon statement.
