6 ASTROS NO-HIT YANKEES

Yahoo! News reports an amazing sports story:

Forced to scramble after starter Roy Oswalt was injured, a record six Houston pitchers combined on the first no-hitter against the New York Yankees in 45 years.

Relievers Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner finished to lead the Astros over the Yankees 8-0 Wednesday night.

Wow. I remember the Braves using three pitchers to do this in the early 1990s, but this is amazing.

Really, what are the chances of Jason Giambi, Derek Jeter, and Alfonso Soriano against the likes of Kirk Saarloos?

BTW, the previous record was four pitchers combining on a no-hitter. The Astros used six because Roy Oswalt, their ace, went out in the bottom of the 2nd with the dreaded unspecified groin injury.

Go (dis)Astros!
