Anybody want to lay odds that this is exactly why McCain got in on this “deal”? Shrewd move on his part, and not just for the photo-op.

If that was his plan, I'd say that there's a good chance it's going to backfire on him since he's liable to come out just as crippled by the move as Frist - quite possibly even more so since he actually helped broker the deal and Frist didn't.

John McCain's comments in the last few days about being the choice of conservatives reminds me of the lines from a great movie.

McCain: What are the chances of me becoming president?

Conservative Voter: I'd say the odds are a million to one.

McCain: So you're saying there's a chance!

FILIBUSTER ROUNDUP....It's only two days old, but I have to admit that I'm already tired of reading about the filibuster compromise forged on Monday. Does this mean I should turn in my political junkie ID card? Still, it's hard to...

"As I argued yesterday, unless he can quickly undo the damage caused by the deal, he will have lost the support of the Republican base and with it any chance he had of the presidency."

Anybody want to lay odds that this is exactly why McCain got in on this "deal"? Shrewd move on his part, and not just for the photo-op.

Anybody want to lay odds that this is exactly why McCain got in on this "deal"? Shrewd move on his part, and not just for the photo-op.

No perceived for me, I think he is pretty much an ineffectual leader in the senate. He may be a nice guy, he may be good to work with, but he can't lead. His performance has more than convinced me he need not bother to court my vote, when/if he runs in '08.

What About Huck?

If Lindsey Graham is the Tom Sawyer of the Senate, who's Huckleberry Finn?
