The .qcp compatible list from one of the sprint users thread seem to be largely the Samsung and Sanyo phones. Some newer Motorola phones may be .mp3 capable, which may make the process even easier.

This doesn't work for Motorola phones at all? I've wanted a ringtone that has the "Let's get ready to rumble..." song for a long time and all I have is a Motorola phone.

You may be able to use Bitpim and a sync cable to upload ringtones directly to your phone. You can also sync your contacts that way.
