Discarded Lies mentioned a couple of new texts for military collegians. Dealing with insurgent tactics (and philosophy?). One of them first seeing a printing press in 1964.

Perhaps yes, a little slow in response or change. But others actually in the greater theater, are showing moxy and writing their own virtual handbooks. On an as need basis.

The bugs will never reign over our hands, our hearts or our minds. That they even bother ....

Hmmm. Code tag trouble. The first paragraph after the blockquote is itself a quote from Barry's comment.

Apparently it's not possible to nest blockquotes in comments here. Good to know.

“Historically, insurgencies have required substantial support among rank-and-file citizens in order to overcome the advantages of government forces. For whatever reason, the Iraqi terrorist-insurgency has managed to thrive, even grow, despite growing alienation from the population. ”

Which suggests that this insurgency is not following the historical pattern, or that there is substantial support among rank-and-file citizens, or that the government forces are not very effective.

Or, maybe the perception that the insurgency is thriving, isn't accurate.

Again, take your pick.
