Since February 2004 , I’ve been developing this story line: There were mid-level intelligence professionals who recognized that the case for WMD in Iraq was flimsy. They expressed doubts. Their warnings reached the Senior Executive Service / General ...

Alternatively, Don Rumsfeld and company were playing Lefty to Zarqawiâ??s Pancho and only let him go so long out of kindness, I suppose.

Great allusion, but:

"All the federales say
They could've had him any day,
Only let him go so long
Out of kindness, I suppose."

Lefty apparently fingered Pancho and split for Ohio with the reward.

Of course, your analogy still works, but Rummy et al. are the federales, as they should be.

The terrorists are aware of all this, which is why it’s actually in the al-Qaeda handbook to claim torture if taken prisoner and to allege untold cruelty on the part of American forces. Through captured documents, the most recent belonging to the late Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, we know that al-Qaeda leaders have discussed the propaganda arm of their battle against the west and how the antiwar media is a willing tool for their purposes. Yet still, each massacre claim is taken at face
