Alabama’s Ludwig Von Mises Institute

Yesterday’s WSJ has an interesting piece on how the Ludwig von Mises Institute, a leading free market economic think tank, happened to be founded in Auburn, Alabama nearly a quarter century ago. Interestingly, although I moved to the state a couple years before the Institute was founded, received a high school diploma and three university degrees there, and even taught college there, I didn’t realize that it was there.

Then again, it is Auburn.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife and infant daughter.

The sad truth, though, is that the Ludwig von Mises Institute has been in the hands of so-called "paleo-libertarians" like Lew Rockwell for some time now and is beginning to bare little resemblence to what Mises actually believed.
