AFP/YahooNews - Hollywood star Jolie treats herself to new Thai tattoo
Fresh from receiving an offer of Cambodian citizenship, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was given a gift of a different kind in Thailand when she had a large Asian tiger tattooed onto her back, a report said.
Photo courtesy YahooNewsThe Oscar-winning star flew into Bangkok by private jet for a rendezvous with artist Sompong Kanphai, who engraved a 30-centimetre (12-inch) roaring tiger on her back, the Nation newspaper reported. A front-page photograph in the English-language daily showed a smiling Jolie, her hair in a bun and white t-shirt at her midriff, as Sompong inked the elaborate design into her skin with a long needle. The artist told the paper he chanted an ancient hymn to bless the tattoo to ensure that its bearer would be rich and powerful. It is the second time Jolie has visited Bangkok to get a tattoo. She reportedly flew into the Thai capital Wednesday with her adopted Cambodian son Maddox.
Days earlier Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen offered her Cambodian citizenship in honour of her humanitarian work and because she adopted a son in the kingdom.
The 28-year-old actress, who serves as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations refugee agency, fell in love with Cambodia when shooting the 2001 film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” at the famed Angkor Wat temple complex and adopted Maddox after meeting him at an orphanage in November the same year.
While it’s a nice looking tiger and should have more long-term appeal than her “Billy Bob” tattoo, I agree with Steven on this one. It’s not as if the woman needs a large cat tattooed on her back to generate attention.

The irony is (to me) that people... care. Not care in the "wow, that's a really dumb thing to do" but "oooh, that's great, she's getting a tattoo". I guess Ms. Jolie hasn't had much publicity lately or something.
It's a shame people feel a need to mark up their bodies this way, but I'd never deny them the right to do so. On the other hand, every time I see a woman sporting a large tattoo I cringe at the thought of what that thing's gonna look like when she's 75 years old...
Let's hope she fares better than Pamela Anderson. Third World countries and tattoos are *not* a good combination.
I'm a big fan, but honestly, the big tiger tattoo is a surprise...I hope she doesn't decide to get any more huge tattoos on her...theres a limit.

I LOVE IT!!! I just recently got my 7th tattoo and I feel they are a form of art for a person to express themselves. To each their own. Besides who are we to judge?
