ARAFAT MUST GO

The AP (via Yahoo!News) reports a new wrinkle in the Arab-Palestinian peace process:

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat stepped in to assert Tuesday that he — not his prime minister — is in charge of the Palestinian side in negotiations with Israel, throwing plans for an Israeli-Palestinian summit into confusion.

Arafat has long outlived his usefulness. It would not be a bad thing if a bullet were to “accidentally” find his skull.

Surely you jest.

I don't understand why we (the US) didn't put more pressure on him long ago. Of course, Clinton was best friends with him, which weirdly gave the terrorist credibility.

He is clearly an impediment to peace. Of course, I have thought that ever since he rejected that offer at Camp David.

Worst of it all is Bush stopping by an Arab country for a pre-Sharon/Abbas summit. It's just like Powell building a coalition before getting smacked down by Palestinian insistence on Death to Israel except one idiot higher up on the food chain.

Arafat won a Peace Prize in 1994.

Hat tip: James Taranto.
