BLACKOUTS

More MLB idiocy: They make TBS black out their coverage of their own team, the Atlanta Braves, in markets where their opponent is lousy and thus can’t sell enough tickets. So, tonight, despite the fact that I’m paying for it, I can’t watch the Braves-Orioles game. Even though Baltimore would have been like a six hour drive from here in rush hour traffic. (It’s about 50 miles.)

Thankfully, I’m planning on going out this evening and wasn’t going to see that much of the game anyway.

Not to nit-pick, but the Orioles-Braves game tonight is actually in Atlanta.

At least on my cable system, the game is on a local television network (WB54) and I think that is why they black-out the game on TBS - to force you to watch the local feed of the game.

Dave: Interesting. I've never had that happen before with a TBS game. I know when I lived in Georgia or even Alabama they occasionally blacked out an ESPN game--but they were showing it simultaneously on TBS.

Oh, well. I wound up going out for the evening about 15 minutes after the post, so would have just caught about 45 minutes of the game.

You could have watched it on the local station since it was the Orioles.

And it's really only a 3 hour drive in rush hour from where you are. Unless you were speaking in terms of the round trip.

I'll have to remember that--although the Braves seldom play the Orioles. One of the disadvantages of DirectTV is that flipping throught the channels is a pain.

Shoot, it's almost a 90 minute drive during normal traffic up there.
