BLOG SPAM

Andrew Cline is on a crusade against what he terms “blog spam,” advertisements that are placed in blog comments sections.

Using Sam Spade 1.14, I was able to track down the owner of one of the domains (phentermine-rx-store.com). I have sent an abuse complaint to the ISP from which the spam was posted. I sent e-mail to the domain owner. And I called the company’s 800 number and left a pointed message for the manager.

How much of this is going on?

I will volunteer my site as a clearing house for blog spam information. Send me IP numbers, domain names, e-mail addresses, and 800 numbers of offenders. I’ll create a web page for this and keep a running tally so we can pool IP numbers for banning and other information for later, perhaps more drastic, action if needed.

He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. Little known fact...

If you are going to call an 800 number of someone you dislike, do it from a pay phone. A connect charge from a regular phone is usually fairly cheap. (under 35 cents)

On some 800 #'s the connect charge from a pay phone is in dollars. (sometimes like 4) That is why some 800 numbers are blocked from payphones.

It is not perfect as some 800 # plans don't do this but the majority do.

We should get a few hundred folks to call these nice people from pay phones.

I dunno, the suggested link in Andrew's comment to use that spam killer plugin just is too much. Perhaps I'd bother if I had more visitors and more spam per day.

But anyway, I believe in retributive justice. I gladly out my spammers and attempted hacks. Mostly so the attempts will be googled and others can find and see what has been going on.
