 Outside the Beltway

Building a Better Blogtrap

Michele Catalano has a long post explaining why she gets to blog about whatever she wants to, how to increase your chances of getting her to link crap you’ve emailed her about, and her rules of ettiquette for link whoring in her comments section.

I pretty much concur with everything she written and would add: I beg of you, don’t send an e-mail to every blogger on the first page of the Ecosystem every friggin’ time you write a post.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

That may be, but nonetheless, I am surprised that I don't have a half dozen trackbacks already with my "lost irai artifacts" photo posts.

harumph. Patience my ass, I'm going to email someone. Before Kevin Aylward steals my idea.

(Not owning a major blog,) I had no idea there was so much "link begging" going on.

I snip things (news stories) for various bloggers that I think they might be interested in. But I always send it to the person that posts that kind of thing. And now that I've been reading major blogs for about a year, that mail is even more discriminating.

I've never dreamed of taking offense if someone did not want it, it was always meant as a friendly heads up.

I guess not everyone thinks that way.
