With that Blue jump-suit thing Bush is wearing, he's seems to be swiping the fashion sense of another authoritarian-minded scion of a political family: Kim Jong Il

These are some of the independant heros that stood by it...

Afghanistan, which has long fallen off the media radar screen.

I am not sure how you define the "media radar screen," but just three days (or so) ago the NY Times had a front page story on the US prison at Bagram.

The revolt in Pul-i-Charkhi prison has been on the international wires and picked up in the Financial Times.

The Houston Chronicle--several days ago--reported on the liklihood of a Bush stopover in Afghanistan.

The Doha II Conference has also been reported on in multiple places.

The BBC had a big report on public opinion in Afghanistan last week.

The Christian Science Monitor had a front page story on the state of politics and redevelopment a couple of weeks ago.

The Washington Post has had several stories per week on the country.

The News International of Karachi and the Nation (Pakistan) have several stories a day on everything ranging from refugees to reconstruction. You can also get english news from Kabul reporters from KabulPress.org. Bassirat has a bunch of great info also--but its in French.

Anyone with access to an RSS news aggregator can get loads of information on what's happening in Afghanistan.

To say that Afghanistan is not on "the media radar screen" is purely subjective and reveals more about your own interests and concerns than any objective analysis.
