 Outside the Beltway

C-SPAN of the Blogosphere

Beltway Blogroll’s Danny Glover, Eschaton’s Duncan “Atrios” Black, and Red State’s Mike Krempasky independently call for a C-SPAN of the blogosphere: A blog cooperative that monitors the everyday minutiea of Congress.

Mark Tapscott dubs it VIP. Previously, however, he expressed concern over Krempasky’s idea that it would be open only to Capitol Hill staffers:

I see lots of potential problems ahead for this blog and it could prove to be a useless repository of hoary bromides about how great are our representatives, or a short-lived career killer for some imprudent young aides.

More likely in my judgement is this new Hill blog will go through several iterations before eventually becoming an important inside source for getting candid accounts of who did what to whom and why.

Presumably, however, it could be done by those without personal axes to grind. The combination of the time and expertise to cover Congress in the depth it demands–after all, most of the important work is going on in the committees and staff rooms, not the floor–will be exceedingly difficult to find.
