Canadian Atheletes Not Interested In Flag Bearing

A number of Canada’s star athletes have refused to carry the country’s flag at the opening ceremonies for the Turin Olympics, saying they prefer to focus on their performance instead of taking on extra work.
According to the Toronto Star, cross-country skier Beckie Scott, speed skaters Clara Hughes and Cindy Klassen and bobsledder Pierre Lueders have asked their associations not to nominate them for the revered role.
The Star also reports the freestyle ski team chose not to nominate moguls skiing champion Jennifer Heil for the job because she is scheduled to compete the day after the ceremony.
Maybe they should just leave it back in the locker room.

Good - I hope they all lose.
Nothing like stirring up patriotism to get those at home rooting for you....oh, sorry. I forgot. Patriotism is a bad thing in socialist countries.
This is why I have lost all interest in the Olympics.
The athletes are looking to post Olympic professions which depend on performance during the games. They do not represent the ideal amateur athlete stereotype which the Olympics have been built upon.
As professionals it is more appropriate to put your own interests ahead of others. As an Olympian the athletes should be putting the idea of representing their country ahead of themselves.

I'm sure the Cuban and Chinese teams, and even the joint Korean team will be showing plenty of their countries' colors during the opening ceremony.
