Crikey. I knew this would happen sooner or later. This story is the first instance I have seen - though probably not the last - of a cat trying to assassinate its owner. How awful. When will humanity wake up to the cat menace?

Forget where I saw this (Medpundit?), but new rules on privacy include asking the patient about the level of privacy desired. The two possible responses sound the same to me, but one of them requires the hospital to deny the patient's presence - even to immediate family.
