I can't speak for anyone else, but I am not intimately tuned to Russian politics. It seems to me that our perspective of Putin and his seeming autocratic ambitions is akin to Socialist Europe's view on the Bush administration - giving it more credit than it can realistically take. That being said, I <em>do</em> think that we have reason for concern in his play for increasing power and the manipulation of the system needed to acquire it. floyd has a point. We haven't seen a proper attempt at a significant diumvirate for years. Times like this remind us why the Russians consider themselves the logical extension of the Roman Empire - they even have power struggles like the Romans and the Byzantines did.
