Heston was also known for his political activism. He was a high-profile supporter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his civil rights movement. He attended King’s 1963 March on Washington and stood near the podium as King delivered his “I have a dream” speech. He was president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2002, a role that cast him as a conservative.

Why the juxtaposition, I wonder? Is it that the author considers being for equal rights for all the races, and being a conservtive, to be mutually exclusive? How does this not qualify as a slanted press report?

Rep. Pat Schroeder: I certainly hope that you are also going to stand strong with us and keep the federal government out of bedrooms. I know people who are on your side also like to get people into the private lives of folks. And I’ve always found it really amazing in that your side often trusts corporations and fat cats to do anything and they want them deregulated, but they want to regulate the private lives of people. I hope you clearly are against that also. Heston: Well, as the fellow that took down the original dictation on the Ten Commandments, I am naturally opposed to adultery.

Touch of Evil is one of the great film noir. The opening tracking shot is one of the greatest pieces of film-making ever. Interestingly enough, I first saw the film as a just-turned 17-year-old Marine recruit at MCRD San Diego. Needless to say, the film went right over all of our heads. When I finally saw it at an age when I could appreciate it, I saw that Heston was great in that movie. He really was a very fine actor.
