Chemical Antidotes Shipped to Convention Cities

Drudge is having a headline conniption fit (although, to be fair, there’s no blue siren) over this one:

CHEMICAL ANTIDOTES BEING SHIPPED
TO POLITICAL CONVENTION CITIES

The government is quietly shipping stocks of chemical antidotes to states under a long-awaited program to react to potential terror attacks. New York and Boston, sites of the upcoming political conventions, are among the first areas to receive the ‘chem-packs.’ Developing…

My reaction was, They’re just now getting around to that?! I mean, the 9/11 attacks were almost three years ago and they were closely followed by the Anthrax murders. Certainly, providing antidotes to the most likely target areas makes sense.

Of course, as Nancy Pelosi would note, Tom Ridge should suck up all the chemicals using his Super Breath, rather than needlessly scaring the people of New York and Boston.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Actually, what Ridge should do is stop holding press conferences on the day that bad news for the Bush Elites is being announced and just do his job. I can't imagine any being influenced by Ridge or Ashcroft's competing self-promotion-fests.

When ISN'T Drudge having a headline conniption fit? If he ever saw a sunrise he'd go with "GIANT FIERY ORB ABOUT TO ROAST EARTHLINGS ALIVE--SOURCES".

Mark, thanks for the chuckle. I think you've got Drudge dead to rights.

James, I agree. I had the same reaction: "What (TF)? They didn't do that already?" I've been calling it 'Homeland (In)Security' from day 1. I'm afraid my instinct was correct.

OTOH, it has been almost three years since we've been hit on our own soil. We keep forgetting that: they are doing something right.

Attila Girl,

They don't have to hit us on our own soil. They're killing the American men and women we've sent to them. Somehow, I don't think the families of the dead and wounded soldiers nor the families of Pearl, Johnson, etc. are as eager as you to congratulate the Bush-Cheney administration. We are more vulnerable than ever, thanks to the arrogance of the Elites who've further enraged lunatics and zealots throughout the radical Islamic world.
