I'm certainly not suprised that China is spying, I'm suprised at how many times they have been caught, and how little attention has been paid to it. And yes, Gertz has a book to sell, so he concentrates on China. But today no one care about national security information unless thay can make a politial statement out of it. The system has become a joke with the political elites, but the worker bees are threatened with prison.

Yes, the USA spies on China, Russia, and other places. Imagine that. I can't count the number of discussions I've have with folks about intel that expect perfect US intel, implying US sources in the cabinets of foreign countries. I ask the reverse question, what about foreign penetration of the US Cabinet. Cough, cough. Some expect the US to do it in one direction, but not the other way.

Stevely,

Just as okay as US spying against China, unless you're not for that either. Please don't tell me you're a blushing virgin about these sort of behavior amongst nations, since spying is the second oldest profession. We do it, they do it. We all play the game by the "rules."

Isn't it more a less a given that all major countries spy upon each other? I expect (and hope) that the US is spying on the Chinese as well ... information is important.

I'm shocked, shocked, that China spies on the US!!! What other countries have industrial spying operations in the US that rivals the Chinese? Israel, for one, but then I don't ever hear a peep from Gertz about that.
