COALITIONS OF THE WILLING

Robert Prather, echoing Donald Sensing (my reaction here), thinks we should junk the U.N. in favor of a more exclusive IGO:

A standing coalition of liberal democracies with significant militaries would be far more effective in preventing genocide than the UN. The standing coalition would be far more moral than the UN which includes every tyranny on earth. . . .In the mean time, coalitions of the willing will have to do.

In a related post, he cites Anne Applebaum as a reminder that even “Old” Europe is far from united on foreign policy and that several countries are therefore always ripe for cherry picking.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife and infant daughter.
