Coffee, Beer, and Pizza Cure Cancer

Good news for most of us, as recent scientific studies have concluded that coffee, beer, and pizza help cure cancer.

As with most academics, Steven Taylor is a dedicated coffee drinker. Indeed, when he and I were colleagues, we brewed and consumed a minimum of two pots a day, usually of some African blend but occasionally, in deference to his specialization, a Latin American bean. He brings us news that the magic bean helps cuts the risk of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol.

This may be of particular interest to my erstwhile co-blogger Leopold Stotch, who considers the disclaimer “a person would have to drink more than 17 beers to benefit” from the authors of a study that beer might fight prostate cancer “more like a challenge than a warning.”

Finally, Hugh Hewitt calls a BBC report that eating pizza radically reduces the odds of getting several types of cancer “the Best. News. Ever.” Even though the report is from the summer of 2003, it makes an excellent companion piece to the others.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Nothing like the booze/hangover/coffee cycle to keep us healthy. So glad that my infant's driven me to coffee consumption!

It appears all the vices the researchers do not indulge in are deadly, while those they do are life-enhancing.

That's not science, that's the political arms industry.
