Colbert Report . . . It’s a Satire

Chris Abraham finds a commenter who seems to think “The Colbert Report” is a real news talk show. And thinks that Colbert guy is right on the money.
Somehow, I’m not the slightest bit surprised.

Unfortunately, it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between satire and regular news coverage.
The problem is: you can only tell Colbert is a satire if you think about what he's saying. With so much of the right having gotten used to only evaluating things on the basis of emotion, it's hard to distinguish the fact of his performance from the truthiness of it.

James, thanks for the link. Yeah, it all started because I am friends with Mara and I know for a fact that Mara and Stephen had known each other before. This wasn't actually bloodsport. It was farce. Anyway, it is interesting and I surely do think that Mara Vanderslice did an amazing job standing up to Bill Colbert / Stephen O'Reilly. Wonderful.

I agree, and would add that the lines between hard news and opinion are being blurred more and more.
That is simply not true.
Four out of five people surveyed stated categorically that the lines between news and opinion are not being blurred more and more.
Those are the facts.

Wow, Mark, I believe you, too. Thanks. I think that all fake news should be punctuated with funny voices and skits about dead parrots. Also, a funny walk and exploding outhouses would aid in my discernment.
The problem is not that Colbert looks like real news. That's a big part of the joke.
The problem is that real news looks like Colbert.
