Could Dowd Get Published if She Weren’t Dowd?

Alex Massie asks regarding Maureen Dowd, “Is it unkind to suggest that were she to hand her columns, unsigned, to the editor of a minor magazine at any of the nation’s lesser provincial universities they would be deemed unpublishable?” He then goes on to dissect Exhibits A and B.

Putting Dowd behind a subscription wall remains both a demonstration of a demonstration of a complete lack of business acumen and an extraordinary act of charity.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

My knee jerk reaction would be a loud NO.
However, those suffering from BDS will suffer about anything to have their illness supported in the press, so, I'm forced to conclude that about anyone doing so would be published regardless of the specific talents involved. Doing so with a name, doesn't hurt the situation.
