I hope images of all the donations ordinary people are undertaking and helping out where needed will be broadcast worldwide also.Yes,there was some renegades who loooted & plundered BUT that is NOT what the majority of Americans are about. We are ashamed of these people who took advantage of a bad situation, but extremely proud of the majority of our citizens. There are bad apples in every barrel as the old saying goes!! It is also unfair to blame this mess on the Pres.,He too, must go through the proper channels to get stuff going orderly.A mighty THANKS to all the countries who pitched in also.We DO appreciate the help which will be needed for a long time to come.

"we don’t really need the assistance"

WHAT? Almost 30,000 people could be dead by the end of this. There are sure as hell people dying NOW. You're saying we don't need the assistance? You must have not been in New Orleans recently.

All these offers should be graciously and gratefully accepted. Natural disasters transcend politics and, at the same time, can remind us of our common humanity.

I agree completely and wrote the same thing yesterday. Especially from the countries that we helped when the tsunami hit. There's another reason to accept: we don't really need the assistance but they need us to accept it. As you said, it would be gracious and we need to be gracious as well as proud.

I think it's temendous that we have gotten these offers for aid. I was pleasantly surprised & impressed by Castro's offer of 1,100 doctors.

And the I wondered how many of them would want to go back to Cuba once they were here.

Help from America’s friends to the north

Canadian help is on the way for victims of Hurricane Katrina:
Canada will send four ships and three Sea King helicopters to the hurricane- ravaged U.S. Gulf Coast next week to assist in the mammoth reconstruction and relief effort there.
