Dallas and Ft. Worth To Share Sports Content

The two major Dallas area metropolitan dailies will combine their sports coverage, E&P reports.
The Dallas Morning News and the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram are extending their content sharing agreement to include local sports coverage, effective Feb. 1.
The Morning News will provide stories and content about the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars to the Star-Telegram. In turn, the Star-Telegram will provide Texas Rangers coverage to the Morning News.
Each paper will cover the Dallas Cowboys separately. According to an account in the Morning News, the papers will also share some college team coverage but will not do so with their columnists.“This arrangement allows both papers to reduce expenses, eliminate duplicative stories and still maintain high quality exclusive coverage our readers have come to expect,” Morning News Editor Robert Mong Jr., told his paper. “As I have said before, this only works because both papers have nationally recognized sports sections.”
This makes perfect sense. The Cowboys have a national fan base, so it makes sense to develop brand identities covering the team. But the Rangers, Stars, and Mavericks are of niche interest even in DFW unless they’re making a run for a championship (hypothetically speaking for the Rangers, of course).

We kind of the same thing down here in South Florida. Three daily newspapers, and they have consolidated some of the sports coverage. The Palm Beach Post for example has stopped covering the Florida Panthers, and is relying on either the Miami Herald or Sun-Sentinel's coverage, or more often Associated Press.
The Sentinel, Post, and Herald agreed to share content a few months ago.
