Have you ever watched Channel 4's afternoon/evening news, James? It already runs from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. All they need is an additional 1/2 hour! With their fixation on news, they'd be adrift in a sea of uncertainty without the network news. But since they're owned by the network, I'm sure they'd figure something out.

This is not retirement, but firing without calling firing. It saves both CBS and Rather's face since Rather's contract expires next year.
