D.C. Convention Center Renamed After Former Mayor

No, thankfully, they didn’t name it after Marion Barry.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Let's see if I understand this, they changed the name from the DC Convention Center to the Washington Convention Center? I don't see the new formal name listed in the article, which I think is poor reporting. I'm guessing the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, that everyone will call the Washington Convention Center.

How convenient that this former mayor has the same name as the city. The other former mayor (and I don't mean Williams), shares his name with a variety of fruit (there is a really bad pun here that I just realized looking at the wikipedia article, so I changed my words). My local stores carry this fruit in season.

Besides Washington, Williams and Barry, don't forget Sharon Pratt Kelly.

Also known as Sharon Pratt Dixon Kelly. Now apparently known as just Sharon Pratt. All of which adds up to, "Who?"

Oh, and what did I just learn? Marion's full name is Marion Shepilov Barry, Jr.

Srsly.
