Steve, James and others may have been referring to 'poor blacks' as a referring to the same people Cosby was referring to:

... Cosby contrasted the achievements of civil rights activists such as Parks with the current generation of "lower-economic and lower-middle-economic people" who he said have not been holding up their end of the deal.

I think 'lower income and lower-middle-economic people' would understandably be considered 'poor' as that term is commonly used. Cosby was not referring to those defined as 'poor' by the Dept of Labor.

If you look at the relative incomes you will see that the survey covered the same people that Cosby was referring to, so the dataset is actually ok for the purpose of debunking Cosby.

>It would be irresponsible for your average college professor to purchase a new Ferrari Scaglietti;

So we're about to be presented with data indicating that poor blacks do not, in fact, buy luxury items that they can not afford and otherwise engage in financially irresponsible behavior?

Guess the answer is: No.

The question was:

Do poor blacks engage in frivolous expenditures?

Yet the data presented covers all blacks. Wrong dataset there guys.

James, why is it not surprizing to find you supporting negative stereotypes? Is it because you are catering to the essentially racist nature of conservatism in order to build a following among conservatives?

A simple cursory look at the data shows that African American families are larger, younger, have fewer cars than white families. Do you think this might lead to more money spent for footwear?

If that is not enough how about the fact that the data shows that survey units for whites are composed of 52% male and 48% female but for African American the survey units are composed of 36% male and 64% female. Have you ever compared the prices for womens shoes vs mens?

James, it would have been real easy for you to debunk the crap Tabarrak used to get a cheap shot in. Instead you help spread the stereotype.

Is it any wonder people question your credibility?

Why is a professor of religious studies doing research in economics and/or sociology? Isn't that rather outside his expertise?

Simple; It's in line with the professor's touting of 'liberation theology'.

And once again, I will make the point as I have a few thousand times before... these are cultural issues, not racial.

The one misnomer in this article is the word "parents". Those people in "poverty" are typically single women with one or more children. In fact 7 of 10 black children are stuck in this guaranteed freefall to poverty, gangs, drug use, criminal behavior and once again single parenthood. Then the vicious circle begins again.

Thank you pagan America for destroying so many families and children with your destructive ideology.
