Right now, the people are blaming Bush for the high cost of gasoline and the oil companies for ripping them off. All other arguments, facts and spin mean nothing to the guy filling his tank up and paying 50 plus dollars for the fill-up. It makes no difference how the economy is doing or the number of jobs created, the average American will judge the performance of the Republicans by how much they are paying for a gallon of gasoline. I'd never call any of the American electorate stupid, but by God they are fickle! Plus a number of factors the polls don't take in: republicans vote at a much higher rate than dems; they have a more motivated base; they have a "hidden" base of religious voters; oh-and they are smarter than dems so they see through the biased media. Make no mistake-the media is biased. The nets, plus all cable except Fox (& while not liberal, they aren't conservative either), plus nearly all major metropolitan newspapers are very biased.
