I don't agree that our younger generation will miss our passed great comics like Don Knotts, as long as we take the time to educate them to know what's good. Right now my 12 year old son is watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show on TV Land and enjoying himself so much that I can't get him to go to bed.

[...] It's amusing that Weaver was proudest of his work on "McCloud" given that he won an Emmy for "Gunsmoke." But I guess being the leading man is more satisfying than being the oaf sidekick. Coincidentally, Don Knotts, who played the ultimate oaf sidekick Barney Fife on the "Andy Griffith Show," also died over the weekend. [...]

Seems I'm considerably older than the norm here. I certainly remember the film "No Time for Sargeants," but Knotts came into my ken through the Steve Allen show and films like "The Incredible Mister Limpet." "The Andy Griffith Show," IMO, was the high point of his career. His "Furley" character was merely distilled essence, missing out on all the fruitiness he brought to his earlier acting.

He'll be missed, though, that's for certain.

We have lost another of the worlds greatest comics. His performances made us laugh so many times without the sex, violence and swearing that is so common with todays so called comics. We will all miss him, but will still continue to enjoy some good belly laughs with his reruns.

The younger generation will never know what they have missed and that to is sad.

So Long Barney...

From this morning's Washington Post comes this sad news:

Don Knotts, the rail-thin comic actor who was perhaps best known to millions of television viewers as the bungling Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife in "The Andy Griffith Show" and the squirre...

Hawk, M*A*S*H was a very good show but it's a bit dated now because it tried to make political points constantly. The Griffith Show, like "I Love Lucy" and a handful of other shows, is simply timeless.

Indeed, he played the character from 1960-1965, before I was born.

Augh. I wish people wouldn't say things like that.
