Don’t Know Much About History

The Telegraph reports that 10-year-olds in the UK lack a detailed knowledge of the events of WWII, with some of them giving amusing answers. A compendium:

It is 1899 and Denzel Washington, the American president, orders Anne Frank and her troops to storm the beaches of Nazi-occupied New Zealand.

That honestly doesn’t bother me. The fact that many of their teachers (at least in the US) probably wouldn’t do much better without the answer key is more problematic.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife and infant daughter.

It is outrageous that this sort of ignorance exists when everyone knows that it was Australia that the nazis took over. It is also unlikely that after all this time they will leave voluntarily
