Tom Elia notes that the buzz about Hillary Clinton’s fundrasing success in “Bush country” does not take into account that Texas is a really big place.
Indeed, I am reliably informed, it’s like a whole ‘nother country.

Tom has it right. Just as I have no doubt there are places in NY Bush could go and raise funds, there are similar places in Texas.
The 'peoples republic of Austin' is a prime example. You would have more cause to say California is trending republican because Arnold was elect Governor than to say that Hillary shows blue state appeal because she can raise money in Austin. A red butt baboon could raise funds in Austin if you could train him to through his poo at a picture of Bush.
Now the rest of Texas, that gets a bit more interesting for Hillary. Let's see her press the flesh at some county fairs.

If Bush were to go to Rochester and Buffalo, he'd get decent showings, espicially if he were to travel some of the more rural areas between those two cities. I hardly think the media would be surprised, though. ;) Many of them live in New York, so they understand how the state works. Many of them don't live near enough to Texas to understand that Texas does not equal Bush votes throughout the state.

I suspect they think all modern-day Texas Rangers wear short-trimmed beards and use Asian martial arts to arrest lawbreakers.

I'm not so sure about better. However, when you cross the border with Louisiana, the mile marker is four didgits. I was impressed.

They trimmed back the beards, but martial arts is still required.
Hopefully some one will take her hunting, only with bigger shot.

We have a saying down here, 'You can't leave Texas by land'. It comes from the hilarity of watching Yankees arrive in Texas and think that while there here they could pop over and see Carlsbad Caverns and get some drinks on Bourbon street because those are in states "right next to Texas".
