E-Mail

The G-mail account that is the send to address for OTB has only received internal (G-mail to G-mail) messages for the last couple of hours. If you’ve sent me anything during that period, I haven’t gotten it.

Update (1656): It appears to be working now. Old messages are trickling in.

Seeing the same thing. Now, the official gmail notifier is popping up saying it can't connect to the server.

Gmail has been a tad slow all day, when sending, so perhaps something is going down.

E-MAIL

Joy points out that I get less e-mail than den Beste. I confess.

Update (14:33): It occurs to me that SDB brings some of this upon himself by disabling comments. At least with comments (which generate their own e-mails if you let them but don’t have to) readers can see that someone else has already pointed out a discrepency. Otherwise, they think they’re being clever and/or helpful by e-mailing something that 39 people already sent.

Following Joy's definition of a popular blogger, i.e., receiving 40 e-mails on the same subject, the quesyiton becomes can NZ Bear integrate that into the EcoSystem! ;)

Indeed!

I was teasing about the 40 emails. And I agree with you, James, on the point that if Den Beste had comments, he wouldn't have had this problem.

On the other hand, I've heard him say that he used to have comments and that they eventually became difficult to police. (That also is attributed to the fact that when he started blogging he was already a controversial figure on Metafilter.)

But to be honest with you, I think the REAL answer other than whining about the situation, is to create our own blogger "ecosystems" and not depend on the big guys as much.
