 Outside the Beltway

Edwards Kicked Upstairs

Yesterday, I noted that NPR’s Bob Edwards would relinquish the Morning Edition microphone at the end of next month. Michael King passes on word that Edwards has been forced out because he’s too old.

Now, that’s been happening in television for years and, while I’ve got mixed feelings about it, it’s at least understandable there. There’s a reason that they hire mainly young, pretty people to appear before the cameras. But how can you get too old to be on radio?

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.
