Election Night Liveblog – Wrapup

I’m going to be traveling a bit and will resume the liveblog around 9 Eastern.  I’ll revert to my standard all-in-one-post format at that point, going until perhaps 11 Eastern or so, in this spot.   Truly big news will get separate posts.

- Fox projects McCain to carry Georgia and North Dakota, two traditional Red states that were considered toss-ups going into the day.

- Several networks project McCain has won Texas, a huge prize but, alas, not one that was in doubt.

- The race is still too close to call, at 9:46 Eastern, in Virginia, Florida, Indiana, and North Carolina.

- Utah goes to McCain.

- Obama wins Iowa, a 2004 Red State but 2000 Blue State, as expected.

- Incumbent Republican Roger Wicker (appointed to Trent Lott’s vacant seat) won election in his own right. Another important Republican hold.

- Obama won New Mexico, a 2004 Red State but 2000 Blue State, as expected.

-Tom Udall wins the New Mexico Senate seat vacated by Pete Domenici, adding a 4th Democrat pickup, RealClearPolitics reports.

- Democrats have won the governor and Senate races in North Carolina.  While the presidential contest there is still too close to call, that can’t be a good sign for McCain’s chances.

- Republicans hold the  open Senate seat in Nebraska.

Now that the election of 2008 is over and a message has been sent load and clear, I can only hope that the tremendous volume of videos, editorials, comments and skits from numerous talk shows and the venerable Saturday Night Live television show can be archived for future generations, so that they can understand first hand, how close this country came to electing a 72 year old Republican man, who at this moment, is a survivor of repeated bouts with melanoma cancer, to the highest office in the free world, and who had the audacity to raise an arrogant, ignorant and incompetent woman to be his running mate, knowing full well that she would have had an extremely high probability of assuming the office of the President of the United States of America from him before the year 2012. People, we stood at the edge of the abyss and looked in. We should have been chilled to our very core. We almost allowed Sarah Palin to become the Vice President of the United States of America, and through highly predictable outcomes, would have assumed the Office of the President of the United States of America and would have become the leader of the free world. Fortunately, we dodged a bullet. It would have been the four horsemen of the apocalypse dressed up as pit bulls, wearing lip stick. Let no future generation make the same mistake. Know your history. See how close we really came to the end of the world as we know it. From the past, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have sent a message to you in the future, and the message is "Yes We Can".

This is a first - it is the first time members of a gang have been elected to the presidency (from now on spell that with a lower case letter) of the USA. Usually, we elect a sorrority girl and fraternity guy - this time we elected members of the El Rukin Gang and the Black Panthers. No wonder I don't want to continue my line with children. God - who would leave this world to their children. I personally am buying rosary beads and saying the full novena each day until Barak Obama finds the justice he deserves.
