Wow, I never thought of a Mitt-Colin Powell ticket. I think that that would be a hard to beat ticket. That would help with mitts black vote and help eliminate some of the rumors of Mitts religion being racist. Which I don't believe is.

--Rudy turns off social conservatives.
--Huckabee (putting the fact aside that he's a total fad, just like Fred was) turns of fiscal conservatives and non-Bible-thumpers.
--Mitt appeals to both social and economic conservatives, and is far more accomplished than both.

I've been converting republican friends & family to Romney primary voters over the past year since, in my opinion, all the interest in the 2008 cycle has resided solely on the Republican side since neither Hillary nor Obama can truly be expected to win, despite media all acting like it's a given.

Now that the stars are aligning for Mitt to indeed take home the GOP nomination, my eyes are scanning ahead to who his possible Veep could be. Immediately, you can cross off Rudy and the Huckster. I'm not so sure about Fred. He's an awful candidate and an awful debater, but he's good on the Sunday show sit-downs. Plus, part of me suspects he'd actually be more appealing as a vp candidate b/c the spotlight would be off him and he could relax as a supporting cast member.

Anyway, of the republican presidential candidates, I can't really picture anyone other than Fred being a VP candidate. I agree that Crist is a possibility. Of course, Mitt even made a passing comment indicating his interest in Crist several months ago. Makes sense for Mitt, since Charlie is popular still in Florida; and it makes sense for Charlie since it looks like he won't be popular for too much longer here unless he actually accomplishes something. Personally, I'm against a Crist underticket, but who cares it's the underticket.

The only guy out there who I think would be a huge asset to the top of the ticket, would be Colin Powell. So, barring that, who really cares about the underticket, as long as it's not someone who is annoying, like Al Gore, or Kermit the Frog Crist, or Hickabee.

Try Dick Cheney in 2000. He was the one that made people feel a lot more comfortable about the relatively young Bush.

I know the pundit-class *said* that, but I wonder if there's any quasi-empirical polling on the subject?

The kind of people who thought "oh good, he's got Cheney" were probably the same people who wouldn't have voted for Gore if Jesus had been his veep.

The intro paragraph outlines my exact point. Predictions like this are absurd.

My gut feeling based on all I know about Romney's success with business, data, and healthcare in Mass, compared with all I know about Hillary's economics, history, and failure of healthcare in the 90s tell me that Mitt would completely stomp Hillary in the general.

Anyone stupid enough to vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton deserves what they get. She has stated she wants to take things away from you. That starts with your freedom. I have not heard one peep from Bush about those who oppose him. I am not ready to listen to another 4 years of hearing about a vast right wing conspiracy, when confronted with errors in judgement. Time after time. Only a fool would think a junior Senator with very limited experience is a better choice than a person with executive experience in both the private and public sector. Besides, Rommney looks Presidential. Hillary looks like a shrew.

It really depends on who Romney selects as VP

Really? When is the last time that a veep made a positive difference? LBJ in 1960?

I agree that it will be Clinton vs. Romney. But I think Hillary will galvanize the GOP base. It really depends on who Romney selects as VP. A Romney/Crist or a Romney/Thompson ticket would be extremely strong.

My prediction then is that she is the next Jimmy Carter. One term, not much to show for it, although she will not be as adept at hiding her envious and self-righteous/sanctimonious side.
