Female Gun Market?

Megan McArdle has some interesting thoughts on the Supreme Court’s decision today overturning DC’s handgun ban. As she readily admits, you can get better legal analysis elsewhere. This, however, is a unique contribution to the debate:

There is a distressing lack of attention to the female market in gun companies. I want something with accuracy and stopping power, but also, an attractive exterior casing that easily integrates with my other accessories. This doesn’t seem unreasonable.

If it works for shoes and handbags, why not guns?

It’s well documented that most men need just two guns, a handgun for protection and close combat, and a rifle or shotgun for longer range defense and hunting. A woman, though, would need one of every variety, including several black handguns that, to an untrained male eye, look exactly the same.

"It’s well documented that most men need just two guns"

I can attest that this is not the case. Two just can't get the job done.

What, the women aren't happy with the Charter Arms Pink Lady?

I'm sidin' with the women on this one guys. You need one for every occasion....and guns are like snowflakes, they are all different. Now if only my wife would understand that..hmmph.

OK, to spend entirely too much brain power on this concept, why does it matter? Unless you're carrying it unconcealed, you're just paying extra for invisible fashion, since it otherwise rides inside your purse or under your shirt or wherever, right? And if you're putting it to use, "Ohh, that's so stylish" is not high on the list of reactions I'd want, but then, I'm not female. Would you buy a color-coordinated, Christian Dior tampon case?

Coffee through the nose. I thank you.

Oh &^%$ me; McArdle's comment was apparently earnest.

I think I'll go take a little lie down now.

Nah, I need four. One for concealed carry, one for the car/nightstand (bigger, more ammo), a shotgun for the safe room, and a semi-automatic rifle as an insurance policy against riots, post-hurricane looting, civil war or invasion.

1. No one is ever going to see the color of your weapon unless you pull it out, and if you pull it out you better be prepared to use it, at which point, its color is perhaps the least relevant topic in the universe.

2. Form follows function. Perhaps this presents Ms. McArdle with the opportunity to buy a new, bigger handbag. May I suggest Coach Club?

Anyone know if the guy who killed five coworkers on wednesday had a gun that was tres chic?

Fashionable murder can be the next Pony in Slavery.

personally, I need 5...

The long range rifle that can put in one inch groups at 300 yards, the .22 for varmints and what not, The shotgun for birds and rabbits, the big 40 mag for when I mean bussiness, and the little pocket gun for when I don't want anybody to know.

On the slightly more serious side, anybody catch the LA cop on NPR today? Funny how it is ok for HIM to have a gun in his house with which to protect himself, but not us.

Ever hear the saying

No challenge to design one for those old fashioned nun outfits - any howitzer as long as it comes in basic black and white

To those who wonder why a woman may need variety in her concealed weapons choices, I ask you this: Why do women need colored/patterned/etc. underwear?
