Of course, the constitution was doomed from the start. You spend 50 years writing a 400+ article document that's been edited into uselessness, you're going to leave the electorate confused and obfuscated.

They need to blow it up and start over again and maybe take a cue from the Founding Fathers -- head into seclusion and shut the special interests out.

French Voters Reject First EU Constitution

It ws not because it was going to be good for Europe, but because France thought it would regain its lost power, and would be able to dominate Europe. What was at stake was French interests in Europe

French Voters Reject First EU Charter/ Links, updates

In a stunning rejection of the European Union’s latest ambitious move to unite its 25 nations, French voters shot down the bloc’s first constitution, dealing a potentially fatal blow to the charter and humiliating President Jacques Chirac....

I don't see what the big deal is... The 43% block just needs to state that the No decision was made by the Jesus people and it's not the way the REAL majority of France thinks. Then legislators from the Yes camp can declare they will not do any work until the No camp stops abusing their majority. Pretty soon the No camp will become the "well maybe" camp and then a deal gets struck and No actually means YES.

Even the French won't surrender their sovereignty this easily.

they already have by dropping the Franc in favor of the Euro....
I wonder why the 60% actually rejected the Constitution?
