They're still doing this? "They" did this when *I* was in college - announcing in the middle of the day it was "Jeans for (put pet liberal clause here)." Since 99% of the students wore jeans in the fall (physics majors wore couderoys) everyone was miraculously in support of the cause.

Heh. I vaguely remember something like this when I was at Alabama but, being a snooty grad student, I was sufficiently above the fray to much care.

FYI, today is also Denim Day for Breast Cancer -- employees who want to wear jeans or denim to work may pay a $5 "forfeit" with all proceeds going to breast cancer research.

My guess is that many folks on the Middlebury campus put on their jeans just like every other day, and have no clue that they are being credited with any sort of viewpoint, broad-minded or not.

Like many previous posters, I also confirm that this is an 'old' trick. I went to college from '85 to '89 in Ohio and they had the same "Wear jeans for Gays" day. I say we have our own "Wear jeans to support conservative thought" day or something to that effect.
